 THE CRYSTAL CUP

chapter four

Cecília was in front of the window of a random bus company. She decided that she would take the first car that was leaving, preferably as far away as possible. Yes, because if she went somewhere close, surely Ricardo would look for her. And he would convince her to come back. But for her, there was no turning back. The slap she received on the face when she asked who was the girl who kissed him in the morning was the last straw that made the glass overflow of a relationship that had long since been wasted. After all, if for him that woman in the collective was so important that it justified assaulting his wife, then she had nothing else to do in that house. And she wouldn't go back to her family because Ricardo was very dear to her parents and brothers, and she knew they would try to convince her to forgive him, which she wasn't willing to do. Even if he came down on his knees begging her forgiveness, she would forgive him. She had no reason to do this. After all, in four years of marriage, they never had children. If they didn't have descendants to connect them physically and emotionally, why would she insist on something that only brought her disappointment?

The attendant asked what the destination of her trip would be, she replied that she wanted a ticket as far away as possible, and preferably in the first car that left. The girl consulted the timetable and informed her that the closest departure would not happen until ten at night, after all it was an interstate line and the departures scheduled for that morning had already been fulfilled…

Cecilia sat on one of the bus station benches and was thoughtful, deciding what she was really going to do. The clock on the wall said two in the afternoon. “Wow,” she thought, “the hours flew by! If I don't make up my mind soon, it will soon be ten o'clock…”

She decided to try one more time… she went to the counter of another company and asked if they had any departures scheduled for that time. The attendant informed that, in a few minutes, a car would leave for the city of Tocantins, in Minas Gerais. She was thoughtful. “Well, I've never been to that city, I don't know anyone there… they'll never think of looking for me in that place…” Immediately, she paid for the ticket, picked up her bags and headed to the boarding gate. The bus was pulling up to the platform, so she walked slowly. There was time until the other passengers boarded, so she could settle down…

She handed the bags over to the dispatcher, took her tickets, put them in her purse. The passengers were still getting into the car, Cecília waited a little longer. She took a deep breath, handed the ticket to the driver, presented her documents as he requested and finally got on the bus. She looked for her seat, and thank heavens that she was at the bottom and had no one beside her during the trip...

She sat down, fastened her seat belt as the driver instructed, and finally relaxed a little. She would go to a place she didn't know, but we live exploring unknown places all the time, right? After all, what difference does it make if you go somewhere new? It won't be new until you get there. After some time, it will become commonplace in your life. And with that thought, she closed her eyes and fell asleep…
