69 - ... EVIL WILL SUCCUMBE BEFORE MY PRESENCE
You couldn't say that Zacarias hadn't warned him... Alberto was dealing with a being, who didn't know exactly what it was... the two had been playing cat and mouse for some time... in a way , it was as if they were playing tag... however, if the being against which he was fighting caught him, he would certainly not escape with his life. They never made physical contact... Alberto managed to stop the onslaught of the strange being with a whip that Zacarias gave him before they split up for the hunt... and it was his luck, because if it weren't for that weapon, he would have been caught right away on the first encounter with the creature...
They were quite far from the center of the village... in fact, they had walked to the plain, where Zacarias communicated to the group that the battle would take place. Each of the members of the group carried a supply of ammunition, a dagger and a whip, all containing something silver in their composition. The ammunition was one hundred percent silver, as was the dagger. The whip, made of braided leather, had some silver decorations which, according to Zacarias, would be enough to ward off evil spirits. Of course, Alberto didn't want to believe what he was hearing, but soon his disbelief was overturned... when the strange being tried to attack him, it was his skill with handling the whip that saved him...
We can say that the good doctor was surprised by the action... when the beast jumped on him, quickly jumped to the side and then, in a split second, the whip appeared as if by magic in his hand... and , continuous act, snapped it against the beast, which retreated immediately. The doctor's surprise was greater with his reaction to the attack than with the attack itself... the speed and promptness with which he had reacted had saved his life... but he was aware that all this agility was not common for him... the only explanation he could envision was the adrenaline running through his body... but he didn't have much time to think about possible explanations for what happened, once the beast attacked him again and the whip cracked again , hitting and wounding the monster, who felt the shock and tried to better protect himself against Alberto's attacks...
Duarte was having a little more action than Alberto... two creatures similar to the one Alberto was facing were trying to corner the deputy... and their intention was only one... to feast on his body... both the beings that attacked Duarte as for what was giving Alberto trouble were the infamous "Papafigo"... and they tried, by all means, to have their nocturnal meal... for there were two of them, Duarte's work was being arduous... the creatures were hungry and it wasn't easy to keep them at a distance... Duarte jumped like popcorn in a hot pot to dodge his assailants, who were getting more and more daring in their attacks... he barely had time to land a blow. with his whip, and he couldn't get a good distance to draw his revolver... dagger, no way... because if he approached one of the two monsters to try to use it, he would surely be overpowered and killed by them... yes, the game of tag was not at all pleasant... Duarte managed to create a security perimeter, as he was constantly turning his whip... but tiredness was beginning to affect him... and the creatures were just waiting for him to fell exhausted, so they could finally corner him and make the final attack...
In one of his attempts to dodge the creatures, Duarte tripped over a stone and fell... the beasts realized the situation and prepared to attack him, but a report was heard and one of the monsters fell like a dry branch. over the land. The other was stupefied for a few seconds, and turned towards the direction of the shot... and the last thing he saw was the flash of the gun, with the projectile coming at full speed towards him... and so, the first two enemies fell on that cold and gloomy night... Andrade took a deep breath, relieved by the help that arrived at the last moment... he could already see himself being devoured by the two strange fallen beings a few steps away from where he was... he looked up to find out who his savior was... and it was none other than his colleague, Delegado Vicente... or simply Juvêncio... who had shot the two creatures and saved his life. Juvêncio walked over to the two bodies, pulled out a machete he was carrying around his waist and, immediately, cut off the heads of the two... which simply dissolved into the earth and disappeared, as if they had never existed... championship nothing surprised Duarte anymore, who just got up and walked over to his colleague and thanked him for his timely intervention...
- Mark this place well, Duarte... if we're alive when dawn comes, we have to burn this region... just to prevent these two from resurrecting...
- But... they dissolved... disappeared... how could they come back?
- They only need blood, Duarte... and, although I have cut off their heads, a drop of blood that falls on this ground will be enough for them to return...
Duarte decided to keep quiet... he didn't understand what exactly was going on there, but he had already seen that everything he thought was reality could just be an illusion... so it was better to listen and obey the police chief, as he seemed to know how to act. .. and all he wanted was to survive that night, which promised more emotions than he was willing to enjoy...
Zacarias was with the two werewolves... although normally they were somewhat calm creatures (if one can say that a mystical creature is calm) this night in particular they were very agitated, aggressive. Normally, they used to attack chicken coops and the like, but today they were attacking a human being... something very rare to happen, because they weren't creatures that prioritized anyone's blood... but today they were thirsty for blood... preferably of this guy who was trying to convince them to go back to their homes... Zacarias tried not to use violence with the two creatures, because he knew them well in their human form... and they were both calm and orderly people... and even as transformed, they never caused any kind of disturbance in the region... but, today...
Like two large dogs, they tried to attack Zacarias, who limited himself to defending himself, preventing them from reaching him. The companion whip cracked through the air… it was enough to send both of them yelping away to a safe distance. If he could help it, Zacarias intended to resolve the situation without hurting them...but the two werewolves didn't seem to agree with his decision.
Lightning and thunder continued to cut the skies uninterruptedly... the flash illuminated the entire extension of the meadow, allowing you to visualize long distances for seconds. And in those small fractions of time, there was the impression of seeing several creatures walking across the field... frightening creatures, whose only objective was to attack the seven people who were fighting against them... It was past midnight... it must have been two in the morning... but who could guarantee that? What could be said was that the battle between The Woman in White and Zacarias was reaching its climax... and Zacarias knew that battle must end before the first rooster crowed... he still hadn't seen the Woman since began to fight his soldiers... but he knew that Alice was lying in wait, ready to strike, when the time came...
Zacarias's patience was running out... if the two creatures didn't listen to him and return to their corner, he would have to, with a lot of pain in his heart, eliminate them. He knew that as much as he wanted to preserve them, this was an unusual situation, and twice the werewolves had almost managed to reach his throat... he barely escaped... as the signs of fatigue began to show, Zacarias decided it was time. time to end it... since the two didn't want to go back to their homes, there was only one thing left for him to do... he drew his gun and fired twice... and two bodies fell lifeless a few steps away from where he was...
