VIVI
VIVI
It was ten o'clock in the morning of a wonderful day. Mild temperature, radiant sun, that fresh, soft wind... the leaves of the plants hardly moved, so calm was the wind that was blowing. The flowers exhaled their perfume, making nature more beautiful, not only with their smell but also with the beauty of their colors... birds flitted across the sky, filling the space with their chirping. Yes, the world seemed to smile that morning...
From time to time a tiziu would jump on a branch and make its characteristic sound. The very vile ones kept announcing that they saw everything... the sparrows and turtle doves walked on the ground, looking for insects that would satisfy their hunger... the cicadas sang, lost in the foliage of the trees in the forest. Nearby, the waters of a creek flowed calmly, warmly towards their destination... every now and then a squirrel would jump from one branch to the other, being mistaken for a small monkey... the parakeets flitted through the foliage, looking for fruit to satisfy them...
Viviane ran through the bushes, accompanied by Mosquito, her little stray, companion of games and pranks. She was calm because it was Saturday and she didn't have to go to school. The girl and her companion were hunting through the forest, while her mother collected firewood, which would be used to feed the family stove. Yes, they still used a wood stove... yes, they didn't use gas... why? Well... it's just that they lived very far from the city and it was almost impossible for a gas delivery person to get there... the school? It was a little far from where she lived. Yes, they lived in the countryside, in a lonely place, lost in the middle of the map... in the middle of nowhere. But there was a good side... nature was still untouched. The forest, imposing, seemed to say to unsuspecting passers-by..."I'm not leaving so soon"!
The farm where Viviane lived with her parents mainly produced fruit and vegetables... their main product was potatoes, but they planted several other crops. And they also cultivated an orchard rich in fruit, many different kinds. We can say that the farm looked like a city in miniature, so big was its extension. And there was also the area reserved for livestock. No one believed that all that land belonged to one person... but it did.
Viviane was born on the farm... her mother conceived her at home, with the help of a midwife. Hospital? She was too far away, there was no way to get her there in time... also because she didn't have a bus to take her there. When the little girl was sick, it was natural for her to be taken to the healer, who lived a few houses down from hers. Doctor? What doctor? As I said, they lived far from the city, and there was no easy way to get there... if the person got sick, they would only be taken to the Municipal Hospital if the herbs from the healers on duty didn't really help. And so they went on with their lives, in a world apart which, while lacking the comforts of modern life, had the happiness of caring only for what was really dear to them...
As I said, Viviane, despite living away from everything, went to school religiously. It was her favorite place. The school was inside the farm, its teacher was the boss's daughter. In addition to Vivi, other children, daughters of the settlers, also studied there. Vivi loved to study. And her favorite class was reading. When the teacher started to read a new story to the class, Vivi would close her eyes and start to travel with the sentences pronounced by Master. And when the Teacher asked the children to write a story based on what they had just heard, the girl traveled through the world of imagination in such a way that when she presented her writings to the Teacher, she was simply enchanted. Yes, Vivi had "the gift of Literature".... and her dream was, perhaps one day, to visit the places that were described in the books that the teacher read and that she described in her stories... but, while that day it wasn't enough, she enjoyed every second of her childhood, playing with her companion Mosquito, imagining running with him through the enchanted alleys, along the road of yellow bricks...
